This question cannot be answered in just a few words! It is the sum of thousands of insights gathered by Bagster® technicians in France over the course of decades.
First, we must thoroughly dispel a common misconception: it is not a matter of hardness or softness that determines seating comfort and pain-free riding. Rather, it is the ergonomic shaping of the seat—both lengthwise and crosswise—that prevents sore buttocks and numb limbs. Of course, selecting the right foam core is also crucial, but more on that later.
Unlike sitting on a standard chair, we have to position the motorcycle seat between our thighs. A seat shaped too flat places excessive strain on the outer areas of the buttocks and impedes blood circulation in the legs. The consequences include unpleasant tingling extending from the thighs down to the feet, or even numbness in the crotch area. In extreme cases, it can lead to difficulty moving after dismounting the motorcycle. Conversely, an exaggeratedly contoured seat places too much pressure on the center of the buttocks and strains the spine. The consequences: discomfort in the tailbone area, as well as back and neck pain.
Preventing all these unwanted issues requires significant ergonomic design effort. The goal is always to position the rider "in" the motorcycle. This is achieved through a recessed seating area followed by the signature BAGSTER® "hump" at the rear. This creates the vital sensation of being the pilot rather than a passenger. And speaking of passengers—the hump plays a crucial role here, too! The top of the hump serves as a seating surface, offering the passenger a slight recess along its entire length and, consequently, a sense of security.
Options: BULTEX® or gel inserts, or cold foam as the top structural layer.
You will experience a quantum leap in seating comfort by converting your stock seat into a BAGSTER® comfort seat or by purchasing a complete SIT'N GO! seat. The ergonomic foam core is initially constructed using standard foam of the type commonly used in the motorcycle industry—a solution that perfectly meets the needs of over 50% of our customers. However, individual factors—such as riding style, body weight, and health issues—may necessitate further adjustments. To achieve this, BAGSTER® offers various optimization options, such as integrating BULTEX® or gel inserts into the foam core. Since the base structure and the surrounding areas of these inserts consist of standard foam, the specific benefits of the inserts are concentrated on the central seating area.
What does a gel insert actually do? The weight of the upper body exerts pressure on the foam core—primarily in the areas of the tailbone and the two sit bones—causing the foam to simply yield. We call this behavior "passive" adaptation. A gel pad, on the other hand, is "active" because gel is incompressible. What does this mean in practice?
When pressure is applied to a specific point on the gel insert, the material is forced to shift into areas under less load. When integrated into the seat, this creates counter-pressure between the sit bones and the tailbone, relieving strain on these critical pressure points. Furthermore, the gel insert absorbs vibrations!
We recommend the gel for:
- Day trips significantly longer than 200 km
- Long daily rides (even those under 200 km), such as holiday tours
- The seat's foam core should have sufficient thickness, as the 1 cm gel insert itself offers no cushioning properties. Consequently, very thin, sporty seats are generally not suitable.
- Body weight of at least 70 kg
By the way: Incidentally, gel is often criticized for heating up unpleasantly in the summer. Sunlight heats a seat equally whether it has a gel insert or not; however, the gel insert is relatively slow to dissipate that heat.
BULTEX® is a special cold foam -comparable to materials used in orthopedic mattresses- that is incorporated into the seat's foam core as a 2 cm thick insert with an HR40 (soft) firmness rating. This viscoelastic material has the property of conforming to the contours of the rider's backside under sustained pressure while maintaining effective cushioning. This "deformation" occurs in a relatively linear fashion relative to the pressure applied (kg/cm²), resulting in a custom, ergonomically correct surface contour that significantly relieves pressure on areas of the buttocks that would otherwise be subject to intense, localized strain.
We recommend BULTEX® for:
- Body weight under 70 kg (BULTEX® is always recommended in this case)
- Day trips significantly longer than 200 km
- Long daily rides (even those under 200 km), such as holiday tours
- Body weight not exceeding 90 kg
Since 2026, BAGSTER® has also offered the option of having the top layer of the cold foam seat core manufactured in two different firmness levels. COMFORT+ corresponds to firmness level HR45, while COMFORT+ FIRM corresponds to HR60. For comparison: BULTEX® (firmness level HR40) is slightly softer still than COMFORT+. Why are these options more affordable than a significantly smaller insert? Because the "branded product" BULTEX® costs many times more!
Both COMFORT+ variants are softer than the standard foam, and combinations with gel or BULTEX® options are available. We consider the dividing line between the two firmness levels to be around 80–85 kg. For body weights of 100 kg or more, we can no longer recommend a cold foam configuration.
Option "Measure seat"
OEM seats are tailored to the "average rider." Depending on height and/or physique, a rider might desire a higher or lower seating position, or perhaps more or less space on the front seat section. Adjusting the ratio of front-to-rear seat lengths is achieved by shifting the "hump" (stepped section), which is only possible with one-piece seats.
- Shaving down the seat reduces the thickness of the foam core, thereby diminishing the seat's cushioning ability. Sport-oriented seats -or the lower seat options offered by manufacturers- often leave no room for further lowering the seat height.
- Please adjust the desired seat heights at the front and rear relatively evenly -for example, +2 centimeters at the front and +1 centimeter at the rear. Only in this way will the result meet expectations regarding both riding comfort and overall aesthetics.
Colour and material selection
You have a choice of over 70 different covering materials to customize the look of your BAGSTER® comfort seat exactly to your liking. You can also add distinctive accents using contrasting piping and embroidery. In addition to standard lettering—such as the model name on the front of the seat hump—you can opt for custom text (e.g., your initials) or even embroidered images. Please note that we cannot reproduce protected brand names or trademarks without the written consent of the trademark owner.
Without wishing to limit your creative freedom, we would point out that using more than two colours—plus an additional colour for piping and/or lettering—often leads to surprising and usually undesirable results. Please also take note of the information regarding the specific characteristics of the various materials. We generally recommend taking advantage of our offer to send out colour and material samples so that you can make your selection based on a firsthand impression.

Our configuration form
While we can determine the desired technical configuration from your online order, we require a completed configuration form from you regarding the visual styling. You can choose between two signature Bagster® designs and the 'VINTAGE' line, which itself encompasses various design options. In principle, all designs can be selected for any seat modification or complete replacement seat, provided they are technically feasible.

We are frequently asked about the "right" leather care product. We are pleased that the look and feel of the materials used create the impression that the seat cover is a natural product. However, this is not the case! All the cover materials originate in a laboratory rather than coming from a green pasture. Consequently, the material we use is completely resistant to almost all environmental factors. Cleaning is carried out in the same way as for standard seats from various manufacturers: using water with a little dish soap or a mild soapy solution.
Please do not use plastic care products under any circumstances! Doing so could make your seat unpredictably slippery.
